Comcast-Netflix dispute solution.

posted Jun 13, 2014, 7:50 AM by Robert Bruce Alexander

Simple, I'm canceling Verizon FiOS for Cox and I suggest everyone else do the same. It's not a boycott and it is certainly no call for government to get involved. Only an idiot believes that a bureaucrat in Washington D.C. could write a law about an industry that the geeks that actually run the industry couldn't go around or worse, use to their advantage.

No, it is simply that my internet service provider (ISP) is unable to provide to me what they had promised.  They sold me download speed. I paid extra to have more download speed. I was free to choose the content. I just purchased the package they were selling and as it turns out it was a deception on what they knew they could not deliver.  Now, like a Company Computer Guy SNL skit, arrogantly argue about blame and accuse their customers of not understanding the internet.  Of course their customers don't understand the internet like they do but isn't that why the customers are not selling internet to them?  Sorry "Nick Burns," the sad fact is, Comcast & other ISPs do not understand commerce!

http://knowmore.washingtonpost.com/2014/04/25/this-hilarious-graph-of-netflix-speeds-shows-the-importance-of-net-neutrality/

If I pay for connection speed I want that speed for everything that I choose.  If tomorrow all of my neighbors and I decide we really want to stream video from a piano bar in Uruguay I expect my internet service provider to do everything within reason to make sure my download speed is maintained.  I do not expect them to not deliver the speed I have already paid for until Uruguay also pays my ISP some interconnect fee.  I don't care if my ISP can get some content providers to pay to have content available as long as it's available when or if I want it.

I suggest the industry become more transparent with publicly available benchmarks before tyrannical powers in government get more involved.  But bottom line, I want what I paid for, not excuses.

Hate Me

I've been told that I should not vote for a third party.  I've been told I should not split the vote.  I've been told I can be a Libertarian just never vote Libertarian.  For that matter, when I vote in the party primaries, I have to vote for "the one who can win."  Politics is a game, they say, you have to go with the winner.  If that gets us closer to our principles we'll just have to settle for that.  We must win no matter what!

Well, I'm sorry, but I have to vote my principles.  I have to do what I know is right.  Neither I nor this nation can afford to compromise on values and principles any longer.  The lesser of two evils is still evil!

I am one of what may be a small group of patriots... that recognize the crucial need to know what is right;
  • that our life and our liberty are sacred and we must protect them and all the rights of our fellow man,
  • that our rights come from God, The Creator, not from some government,
  • that we must put these principles above all else.
This is not a new sort of patriotism.  It is an old one.  It is one the founders knew and, for which, were willing to risk their life, liberty and sacred honor.
This is not the accepted sort of patriotism.  Patriotism of this sort has been discouraged more and more for the past 100 years.
This is not the popular sort of patriotism.  A fact that is made ever more clear as we approach another election.

I know one more thing, that the United States of America can be saved!  It can be turned around.  We can bring it back to it's former glory.
But I know this also, that it cannot be done just by winning a game or by winning an election.  If we continue to play politics as if it were a game of winners and losers we will miss out on real victory.  It cannot be about my team and your team, about winning at any cost, about hating your opponent.

Politics is not a game!  Politics is about the proper role of government in our lives.  It is about what we do with this tremendous gift of liberty.  Do we protect it for future generations or throw it away to benefit an elite powerful minority that tell us they know what's best for us.  It is about how we are to treat our fellow man and what kind of world to we leave for our children.  It does not get more real than that.

No one knows how much more time we all have but one thing is undeniable; there has never been a more important time for people who really know right from wrong in the world of politics.  In no other place on earth could every single person have so much to say about it then in a country founded on the concept of self governance.

Everyone's vote matters more now then ever.  I will be casting all of my votes not based on winners and losers but based on my principles.  If that causes you to hate me than I welcome your hate.  While it does not prove I am the side of good, it certainly proves that you are not.

In the end the world will be divided into two sides; Good and Evil.  One side will rally an army with hate.  Hate will be raised as their standard and it will be directed at the other side.  Count me on that other side!  Count me on the side of the hated.

Feet hit the ground

So rare it seems that we ever spend any time in touch with reality, with our feet firmly on the ground of truth and marching in a clear and purposeful direction.  No, it is much more common to live our lives with our head in the clouds of distraction from daily life. From our waking moments till we pass out at night we use every tool and resource at our disposal to battle traffic, work, bills... We further depart into TV and movies; tales of heroes defeating dragons or evil doers while the lady is bound and gaged.
That day to day life we spend so much time in. That is not the real world. No, in fact as we allow ourselves to be swept up, the real world is rushing beneath our feet like a bullet train.  Where the real world is heading is determined by those who choose to steer it.
Today, my fellow heroes, our feet hit the ground!  Lady Liberty needs defending!

I am a bit doubtful that Republicans can become a conservative party again but okay, lets say they all pool their testosterone and grow a pair. Maybe now that we are back in the U.S.S.A. the new perspective will remind some of them why we sent them to D.C. in the first place. It wasn't for campaign finance/1st amendment reform. It wasn't to find out what drugs some ball players are taking and it certainly had nothing to do with bipartisanship! It was to conserve what was set forth in our constitution!
I believe that the foundation of the United States of America is the single greatest accomplishment of man kind. The principals set forth in The Constitution are the result of a culmination of the best of all philosophy in regards to the governance of man. By designing a government that so accurately recognized that inherent nature of man kind, our forefathers set the stage for giant leaps forward in human endeavor. What is important here is that they recognized what we have forgotten. That it is not our land, not our government and not even our God that makes us great. It is us, each of us, as individuals choosing to use those good parts of our human nature endowed by our creator. We each must act! That is, we must take action to use what is good in us to do something great! It is the design of this government to GET OUT OF OUR WAY! It is our nature to be free and the duty of the government to protect that FREEDOM!
To date, no country had been better suited to do just that and we have all been blessed as a prosperous nation because of it. However we have deviated from our course in favor of the comfort in doing what feels good. Both Candidates were asked during the campaign something to affect of what do you think America has to apologize for. Neither could really answer it but I will.
We have shirked our duty to foster the better part of our humanity. We have crushed the human spirit and free will of those we pretend to help. We have offered charity so to make us feel good while creating a dependent class of Americans. We have created generations of perpetual adolescents still clinging to the government apron strings and never realizing their potential.
Now, as those strings begin to strangle us all, it is time to act! This will take real sacrifice. But mostly of power from the politicians.
The best that government can do for the economy is to get out of the way. Just as I can stand on the roof adjusting the wind vein all day and not change the wind. The government's involvement other than obstruction is at best as a service provider. Everyone knows there is nothing the government does that private industry can't do better, faster, cheaper. So here's a plan.
Lets take a real look at the Fare Tax plan. Abolish the IRS.
Sell the government's interest in the banks, in the car companies, everything we just grabbed. While we are at it, sell off any other business that our government is involved in that anyone else can do.
Next, you want jobs here in America again? Make it so darn easy to hire people that even politicians will be able to do it without breaking the law! That's right, no payroll taxes, no FICA and secret social security taxes, medicare and Medicaid taxes gone! We know it goes into the same pool anyway and those systems are bankrupt.
We can mandate a retirement plan and we can still make good on social security payments already promised. But take a look at that last statement you got about your social security retirement funds because that's it. No more. The rest is on you. Consider that as just one more bubble to burst.

Just to Say Hi

Fair Tax can preserve the greatest accomplishment of man kind

Speech given at 2009 April 15 Virginia Peninsula Tax Tea Party:

I believe that the foundation of the United States of America is the single greatest accomplishment of man kind. The principals set forth in The Constitution are the result of a culmination of the best of all philosophy in man's relation to man. By designing a government that so accurately recognized the inherent nature of man kind, our forefathers set the stage for giant leaps forward in the human condition.
What is it that makes this country so great?
We are not great because of our land, though it be a great blessing.
We are not great because we are Christian. No, if we are Christian we are so by faith not by government decree.
We are not great because of our conquests. We are great despite them.
We are not great because of our charity, or our prosperity, though these are signs.
No we are great because we are FREE
and it is government's ONLY role to protect our liberty and human rights.

Now here we all stand loosely united against taxes and against the socialist even fascist direction of our government. We'll yell and scream and then go back to our jobs, brag to our friends that we were there and we did something. Then we'll wait for the next election where we will go an pull the lever for the lesser of the two evils.
Well not me! I will never again vote for a "tax less, spend less" candidate with vague promises of smaller government.
We can not afford to just swing the pendulum back the other way. It is time we reset the clock!
We've gone too far in the wrong direction to settle for mere steps to the right!
It's time we demand that any employees we send to Washington don't just take our money and use it to ensure their next election.
It's time we take the power back.
The Fair Tax will take the power out of Washington and put it right into your wallet!
You only pay taxes when you are ready to spend.
By eliminating the IRS and all payroll taxes it will be so easy to hire Americans that even cabinet members could do it legally.
Lets take this momentum from these tea parties and keep it going.
Keep it going to primaries and house elections.
Demand that any employees you hire to go to Washington for you do so with a job description to bring back the power! Fire the IRS! Hands off of my paycheck!
And give me the FAIR TAX!

I believe we can use this momentum to make a change. The Republican party may be a key. The GOP is better than a third party as real potential within a short time. We all just need to let them know we are there for them but only if they make a serious commitment to turn things around. Something like the contract for America was good but not good enough. Look how far the pendulum has swung back to the left. The Fair Tax is the right level of commitment to correct the course of our government. I can't think of any one thing that has as much potential. If a congressmen can commit to the Fair Tax that's who we can get behind in the next election. If it can become the platform of the Republican Party, then they will see a grass roots support and turn out like they've not seen in this lifetime.
I've had enough of the pendulum swing. If it's the GOP or the Second Coming I will reserve my vote not for the lesser of evils, but for good, for right, for LIBERTY!
